All Things Come to an End

Our last day at Wood Group is almost upon us! I really don't want to leave...As much as I want to see my family and friends, I've really had a great time over here and it will be hard to leave. This experience has really helped focus my career goals, when I started I knew I was interested in marketing but I didn't know how or what to do with it. After working in corporate communications for three weeks, I've discovered a career path I never knew existed. I've become much more interested in branding and advertising and hope to base my dissertation and career around the two. I look forward to pursuing a career in advertising, brand management or possibly corporate communications. My experience here has also improved my confidence in my own abilities, I was daunted by the prospect of coming into a big company and working here for 8 weeks, but having co-workers encourage me and like my work and ideas is a great feeling.

As the days wind down we have almost finished out MS 150 website, it has been a challenge at times, but overall such a great experience. I got the chance to interview past riders and write up their MS 150 stories for the site, in an effort to encourage new riders. I also managed to get some discounts from local stores. We're trying to make the event appealing to a wider audience and emphasize that anyone can ride. I'm really proud of the work John and I have done, he's made the site look great. This was my first project which had a set goal and it's a great feeling to know we've completed it and can see the end result.

We've been making the most of our last few days, buying any last minute gifts for friends and family. Valerie, from business development, managed to arrange a VIP tour of NASA yesterday which was amazing! Scott, our engineer, was like a kid in a candy store, Jen and I were more interested when they mentioned the movies filmed there. I'm not a space enthusiast but it was really amazing to see the mock up of the space shuttle and speak to an employee of mission control.

Yesterday all 6 of the interns presented to John, Maribel, Valerie and Derek our experiences with Wood Group. We've all had different experiences, learnt a lot about ourselves and pinpointed our strengths and weaknesses. We also gave feedback on each department and suggestions that could help next year's interns.

I just wanted to take an opportunity and thank everyone at Wood Group for the past 8 weeks; the whole team was SO welcoming and helpful. We've all had a great time and will be sad to leave.

Tonight we're having farewell drinks with everyone from both offices before we head off on Saturday. My main concern is fitting everything into my suitcases....

I hope everyone makes it home safe and sound,

Kirst
