Hello once again from the Big Apple!
Well I’m nearly at the end of week two of my internship! Time definitely does fly when you’re having fun!!
This week has been full of brainstorming film ideas, more research, getting to grips with my fancy top of the range editing equipment and working on some MaeVona ads.
Today (Thurs) has been particularly interesting in MaeVona world! An American bridal magazine came to the office to interview Maeve and make a short film for their website. Everyone was frantically running around the office this morning to make sure it looked just right in case the film crew wanted shots of the office! It was a good experience to see how Maeve was with the crew as it gave me some great tips and ideas for the interviews I will be filming with her in the upcoming weeks. We also got to move out of the office and go on location with the magazine. We went to a Scottish pub in Downtown Manhattan which was a lot of fun as I haven’t been at that part of town yet and my MaeVona colleagues were giving me a ‘tour’… with a little help from the cab driver! The Scottish pub was drenched in tartan and had sprigs of lavender on each individual table…a little bit of home in the scorching New York heat! Maeve was taking part in a Whiskey tasting along with a continuation of the interview. The Americans kept asking Maeve and I to pronounce the names of the Whiskey and of the Highlands and Islands they came from – but much to the hilarity of the two Scottish lassies there, the Americans were butchering our beautiful words!
My photography skills came in handy today when Maeve, drenched in her stunning MaeVona jewellery, had her motorbike at the bar for some extra special footage showing the designer outside office hours! This also helped me come up with a few more film project ideas!
So all in all, it has been another great week as an intern! I feel like I have a great understanding of the MaeVona brand and feel at home in the office and not just ‘the intern’. I have really enjoyed being able to take part in the team meetings and having a chance to listen and contribute to discussions about different aspects of the sales and marketing strategies in particular. I’ve also had some confidence-boosting encouragement from the rest of the team on the work I have done so far which has been really great to hear!
In other news – I have mastered the New York subway! Considering this is coming from a girl who has, on many occasions, got on the wrong train from Glasgow Central Station – imagine my joy when I managed to conquer Grand Central Station!
Another great week exploring the Big Apple – roll on week three!
