I can’t believe this time last year we were heading off to Houston, on what would turn out to be some of the best weeks of my life to date. I had the new and old Wood Group interns at my flat for dinner this week, as it’s become a tradition to get to know each other and share our experiences before everyone heads off to Houston. Jealous doesn’t begin to describe how I feel, we spent the night talking about all the fun we had and how great and welcoming the team were to us. It’s easy to forget how great that time was until we all see each other and start to reminisce! The new interns all seem great, I’m sure they’ll put us to shame!
I feel as though I’ve spent the past year in the library working on my dissertation, reports and job applications! The hard work has paid off and I just accepted a job with Wood Group in Glasgow on the project controls graduate scheme. This is a completely new chapter in my life; it’s safe to say I’m nervous and excited! The job seems to be challenging, even more so because I have little oil and gas experience. I’ve met with previous graduates who assure me its tough but worth it! I don’t think I could have gotten through a single stage of any of my interviews without the experiences I gained through my Saltire experience. The internship was invaluable work experience, my confidence in my own abilities drastically improved.
I wish all of this years interns the best of luck. It will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience, my advice is to make the most of every opportunity, the 8 weeks fly by and you’ll never want to come home!
