This week seems to have been one busy week!
I was invited out to dinner this week by my Boss/GlobalScot, Maeve, and her American business partner, and his partner this week. I was more nervous for this than I was on my first day as an intern!! We dined at a very high class 5th Avenue restaurant which over looked Central Park and all I can say is WOW! I felt like I was an extra in a movie or something! Food and atmosphere were amazing, and I had a great time despite my nerves! However, apparently when Maeve and I get into a conversation our accents become very Scottish and no one else can understand as we’re talking too fast! So we’ll have to work on that!
Every Friday we post one of my short films on MaeVona’s social networking outlets. The first short went up last week and we had a great response which was not only great for the company – it was great for me too! So much so, one of the jewelers in Montana which sells MaeVona shared the film with their customers. It’s a great feeling to see that my work is benefitting the companies online marketing strategy. It’s strange calling what I have been doing here ‘work’ as it is (as cheesy and repetitive as I sound) so much fun! Continuing to work on future projects for the coming Fridays and beyond!
I had my first solo out of office task this week which involved finding my way to the other side of town to a filmmakers heaven – (Warning: I may sounds slightly geeky in the next 3-4 sentences) – It was gadgets galore! Every kind of camera from in your face Hollywood movie makers to digicams, lighting, rigging, dollies, micrphones, green screens…everything! I was sent out to buy a tripod and a microphone which I did, although it was very difficult not to just buy the whole store! I don’t think the boss would have been too happy when she saw the bill on the company credit card though! Is it sad that I’ll probably visit the store again on my own time?! Probably.
My Boss left this afternoon for the homeland - although I am loving my time here in New York, I was so jealous that she was going home! However, as I sit here at my desk in a beautiful Madison Avenue office, I look out the window and see the sun bouncing off the Empire State Building and am assured that Scotland will still be there when my internship is over! And for our office Friday treat we have just ordered frozen yoghurt from this amazing place called Pinkberry – psyched!
My roommate and fellow New Yorker Jane arrived at the weekend! It’s great having someone around the apartment and I’m looking forward to having someone to explore more of the Big Apple with! It’s great to share stories of our ‘day at the office’ and get an insight into the similarities and differences of our workplace and role within the office. So all in all, it’s a good ol’ pairing!
Another highlight of this week was I got to see my Mum! She was also working in the Big Apple this week so I was able to catch up with her dinner which was amazing but I did feel homesick when I had to say cheerio! The Irn Bru and Salt & Vinegar crisps she brought me are getting me through it though!
Hope those of you who are just finishing your first week as an intern are having an amazing time! Loving all the blogs so far!
Until next time!

Nice blog, Maeve (fellow GlobalScot!) told me she was taking you out for dinner, glad it was a great accent.
Did you see the FB comments on your accent ? ;)
Thanks!
Oh yes! Myself and one of my American colleagues did a voice over and the rest of the office decided the Scottish accent won! I was worried I sounded like a 5 year old - but there seems to have been a good response so far! :)
