Power tools and lego are all in a days work for Envision Solar

Being rather late on with my blog (apologies to all those fans who have been kept up late, yearning to hear these magical words) I'll forsake the usual I can't believe... I'm already here/ it's only been two weeks chat and skip straight to the nitty gritty, I'm talking the booze, the 24 hour parties and the late night trips to see the brilliant Harry Potter and the deathly hallows.  No, I jest of course, this is an upstanding blog and the new HP is rubbish. Anyway forward to the reason I'm here in sunny San Diego, a marketing internship with Envision Solar, a solar power company founded by architects. It started last Monday with an apprentice esque cab journey that whisked me and my fellow internees, Yvonne and Helena to the Envision HQ, to be greeted by the Envision President and our Global Scot Desmond Wheatley. Immediately after we were put to the task of building our own desks. Power tools at the ready we dove straight in, I like to think the task was linked to a management talk metaphor, like "imagine the building of this desk to be like the construction of your career" however I think it's more just Envision. By which I mean, all three of us have been given the opportunity to really make of this internship what we want, and in the cheesiest way possible the desk building was a I suppose a great example of this- the team have given us the tools and are there to support us, but day to day we get to build the role ourselves. And what a role we are building, Helena and I have spent the first week updating the companies marketing collateral and putting together a marketing campaign which we will role out over the next two months, as of yet it's all hush hush, but it involves Lego, Solar Trees and a whole lot of tweeting, so keep tuned for updates. Since, that memorable first day we have ditched Abdul and his taxi, and got ourselves a ride, which has meant freedom but has also meant our 15 minute commute regularly turning into an hour plus tour of San Diego's many highways... As the only one over 21 I've been given the task of negotiating the right but oh so very WRONG side of the road, I think I'm managing it quite well but it may be wise to read Helena and Yvonne's blogs for a more reliable and less biased account. Anyway like all good things my driving of course included, this blog must come to end. However for more updates on solar power and life in Cali tune in next week, with my un-kept promise of booze and 24 hour parties still on the table It should be a good read...
