In some ways I feel like I have been away far more than two weeks, in others it has absolutely flown in!
So this week at work was pretty exciting, I have spent my time writing press releases, contacting board members, designing posters and flyers and beginning a marketing campaign ‘ What Scotland means to CHICAGO SCOTS’ (the name of the organization is always written in capitals, I haven’t questioned it to be honest, just so you know I am not always shouting about it!).
The campaign idea came to me from the video the BBC made for T in the Park. If you haven’t seen it, youtube ‘Scottish is’ and it will be there, really makes you proud to be from Scotland and it’s also a great way for all us interns to show our new friends what Scotland is all about. Basically, the campaign involves asking all CHICAGO SCOTS members what Scotland means to them and the best will win two tickets to see Skerryvore and I will make all the good answers into a promo video for the society.
Aside from work, after posting my last blog, Jack Melvin who is also alone but in Indianapolis sent me a messasge on facebook asking if I could show him around Chicago this weekend which is great for me as it meant I got to do all of the toursity things that seem a bit strange to do on your own.
We went to a Cubs game (they won and since this is a very rare occasion Jack and I are giving ourselves credit for this!), we took a boat tour of the city and learned all about the different buildings and how they came about, we went to Navy Pier and watched the fireworks, we had the Famous Deep Dish Chicago Pizza, we watched the symphonic orchestra in Millenium Park whilst lying on the grass drinking local beer, we went to a 50s diner and to a few Chicago pubs. It was an amazing weekend and I will definitely sleep well tonight.
Back to the title of the blog: Saturday night we decided to do a mini pub-crawl in Chicago to make sure that Jack and his friend from Rolls Royce saw the most of Chicago that they could. So when we came out of one of the venues there were limos outside acting as taxis, why not said us and we hopped in and went 6 blocks down the street. We did Chicago in style ;-)
As always, I enjoy reading everyones blogs, we all seem to be living such exciting lifes! Anyone near Chicago who feels like visiting or who feels like showing a visitor around wherever they are some weekend, get in touch :)Finally, a little well done to fellow saltire internand future flatmate Tina Dickson for jumping out of a plane and surviving this week!!
