Wow I really can’t believe that this is week 5 already! It brings a change to my internship as I change not only department but also the building I work in. Now I am in the same building as the other interns (although Lizzie has taken my place within corporate communications). I’ve even got my name on my cubicle at work. I am really enjoying business development department with Valarie who interviewed me over the phone for the internship.
I was given two projects this week; the first was to get an understanding of what marketing materials are needed by different parts of Wood Group need since the recent merger with PSN. The second project was to research a certain type of oil and gas exploration in certain locations, but can’t give too much away about that.
During the week I spoke with lots of people which was good to get to know the layout of the building and also the people who work in the building. It has really helped me settle into my new location and get to grips with the projects I have been given. The research has gone well and I have managed to complete it this week, it was a good project that I felt comfortable doing thanks to my work as a Student Consultant at University. The marketing materials project aided my introduction to the department which I have really appreciated.
During the week we have all just relaxed and had a few BBQ’s and sat by the pool. I have enjoyed this relaxing week. This weekend we went to Austin which is the capital of Texas. Friday night we checked into our super fancy hotel (which was so much better than the Super8 we stayed in previously on our trip to San Antonio) The Radisson was beautiful with views on to the Colorado River which situates the Congress Bridge which sees bats depart from the underside every night into the Austin skyline. We all had food at the TGI Fridays which adjoined to the hotel then we got ready to go out on 6th Street which provided great banter. Saturday we all had a great day at Schlitterbahn Water Park and headed to a Texas Steakhouse for dinner. Sunday we went to the State Capital Building which provided a great day of culture, Pictured below is some of the great art work that situates the streets of Austin. Sunday afternoon we headed to the San Marcos Outlet malls which were very busy, but it did not stop me making a few purchases.
Hope that everyone is having a great time where ever you are!
