So...how was your Summer?

This blog is combining week eight and nine of my internship as I have been so busy I don’t know whether it’s New York or New Year!

Compiling my last few projects has been both challenging and rewarding. The biggest task I was given was to produce a Retail Training Video to be sent out to the retailers all around the US and Canada to allow the sales staff to learn all about the brand and designer. This project has been mentioned in one or two of my previous blogs but I can happily say it is finished!! My boss and fellow colleagues love it and I am very proud of it! It took a long time to perfect, but we got there in the end!

I am one of these lucky interns who managed to score a longer internship than previously advertised – and this extra week has been amazing! On Wednesday morning, I stood outside the office and pressed the buzzer and waited…and waited…and waited…and couldn’t understand why no one was letting me in! I was sure I heard noise coming from inside the office, so I pressed my ear up against the door and was 99% sure I could hear bagpipes. Not the noise you imagine you would hear if you pressed your ear up against a busy NY office, but as my boss Maeve is Scottish, I didn’t think anything of it! The door finally clicked and I opened the door … to balloons, streamers, saltires, bagpipes…and SURPRISE!!!! Team MV had organized the most amazing Scottish themed ‘Farewell mi lassie!’ party for me! Ah wa’ nearly greetin’ so ah wa’! I couldn’t believe how much time and effort had gone into organizing the party and I am so grateful to everyone at MaeVona for giving me an amazing send off!

Looking back on my time as an intern, I can’t believe how far I’ve come. Sitting on the plane watching New York fade in to distance felt like I was leaving home all over again to face another adventure. Before I left MV, my colleague said to me, ‘They say New York is one of the hardest places to survive in, and you’ve done it!’. I’ve learnt so much and am so proud of myself for what I have achieved this summer. It is so strange not going to the office every day and being out of the routine I became so used to over my nine weeks in Manhattan. I’ve been away for almost a week, and I still feel like I should be going to the office on Monday! Maybe once I’m back on Scottish soil, reality will set back in!

After my internship ended, I ran off to Canada for a holiday! We have had an earthquake, a tornado, and we are preparing for Hurricane Irene in case she drops by for a visit! Exciting, eh!

For those of you still on placement, don’t let one moment pass you by and embrace every opportunity that comes your way! You’ll only regret it if you don’t!

PS. For some reason, my blog won't allow me to upload any photos to this blog and the photos of my leaving doo are very much worth it, so I will endeavour to upload another blog in the near future with the photos!!
