OK so I'm going to be upfront, confessions seem to be a theme of my blogs and I'll begin this one in the same vain, with another. This week I got lazy blog wise, don't worry the content your about to read is still up there, it contains the highs and lows of any great masterpiece but my title is well, rubbish. It shows no creativity, no real imagination and relies completely on the names of celebrities to sell rather than any great literary flair. However I predict this, it will sell and it will sell well. After writing a few of these things I've noticed a bit of a trend, readership numbers tend to go up when mixed with a few things, firstly you should submit during the day UK time, somewhere in the afternoon when the general audience (you guys) are willing to do anything but work. Secondly, make the title something appealing to all, last week I went with Yiddish and I think most people thought it was a typo... Lastly, put famous people's names in your title add that to the name of your company and you've got a sure fire way of popping up on a few randomers (hello) Twitter feeds and Google searches. Believe me it works a charm, I'm sure all my fellow internees will now be watching my readership numbers with hawk eye vision so please keep reading, and maybe even refresh the page a few times to boost my numbers!
Now following that ramble I should probably find a way to link all of that back to my internship and as mad as it sounds I think I may have found something. In my mind a normal internship is all about filling a set role, you go into the office on day one, you're given a job, told how to do it and if you don't mess it up too much you get a good reference. Well a Saltire Internship is a bit like this blog, they don't take the normal form, you have to think of new ways to work every single day, you have to learn from mistakes (Yiddish titles included) and spot opportunities, (including Adele in this title) and most importantly be creative, the opposite of my title. This week Helena and I will finish putting together changes to our company's website and sales collateral, we've gone through a whole load of ideas and we've got some really exciting stuff to show. However what's been really interesting is looking at those outside of the box ideas, because as interns we have a unique opportunity to be flexible in our role, to find ways of marketing the company that maybe we wouldn't usually focus on. So this week will not only be spent putting together brochures on InDesign but will also include writing up applications for renewable energy awards, and writing guest articles for influential environmental blogs. So although the link was tedious, it was there nonetheless, a Saltire Internship pushes you to find opportunities, to spot trends, to be creative and most importantly it teaches you how to sell a real product, because although selling this blog is fun, getting people to buy an Iconic Solar Tree® structure with groundbreaking EnvisionTrakTM and CleanChargeTM technology well that's really bloody fun!
P.S The Adele shout out wasn't entirely unwarranted. Last week in Vegas, I used some of that famous Saltire Foundation Chutzpah and with my partner in crime Helena set about getting ourselves, Yvonne and some of the Saltire guys from Texas into one of Vegas' most exclusive club. With our knowledge that Adele was performing in sin city that night I used my British accent to its fullest. Calling up the club I informed them that I (Adele's agent) would like to put Adele's sister (Helena) and six of her friends onto the guest list. After a call from the agencies head office, courtesy of Helena, all was confirmed and that was us in, to a party on a rooftop with mermaids, views of the Vegas skyline, a swimming pool and $20 Gin and Tonic's, because unfortunately my new found influence didn't spread to free drinks.
