This air con is playing havoc with my quiff!
So begins last weekend’s trip to Chicago to meet up with fellow Saltire interns Kirsty and Jack, and American intern Tim. Thursday evening Rory and I set off on a rather enthusiastically air conditioned Megabus to the windy city (not nearly as windy...

‘Girlfriend captured by ninjas… need money for ransom and KungFu lessons’
To echo the feeling of many of you, I cannot believe I am entering my fourth week here! Time flies so quickly. This week, I have been expanding my role in the society as things are getting pretty hectic around here with the amount of events coming up...

Remember that time we took a limo six blocks?
In some ways I feel like I have been away far more than two weeks, in others it has absolutely flown in! So this week at work was pretty exciting, I have spent my time writing press releases, contacting board members, designing posters and flyers and...

Lesson 1: avoid scary people on trains...
Hello from Chicago, Chi-town, the windy city! I, like most who are blogging this week, have just finished my first week of placement. I am working for CHICAGO SCOTS this summer, the oldest charity in Chicago. CHICAGO SCOTS celebrate Scottish heritage...

Chicago - my kind of town.
This will be the last blog post I write in Chicago. The next one will be from back on the other side of the Atlantic. Scary!! Tomorrow will be my last day in the office, then Sunday night I fly to London. I'm going to be staying in London for a couple...

Everything looks better from the 96th floor...
Dear blog. I have less than 2 weeks left. Make that like, 10 days. How terrible would it be to cancel the return flight and spend the rest of my life on a boat on Lake Michigan? Obviously I will not be following through with this um, flawless plan...but...

My new best friend: the air-conditioning unit (and more tales from Chicago)
I have formed a deep emotional attachment to an air-conditioning unit. Ridiculous as it sounds (particularly to those still enjoying the delights of rainy Scottish weather), the low whirring in the background is much better than the sky-high temperatures...

'Free' and 'samples' are two of my favourite words...
It is very easy to eat out for every meal here...and more often than not, eat the boxed up leftovers from your restaurant meal for snacks the following day. I have a feeling it could be very easy to put on a whole lot of weight in Chicago! Just as well...

...and all that jazz!
Coming to the half way point of my internship, I feel that I'm becoming increasingly Chicagoan. I'm not sure whether that feeling has come from successfully giving Australian tourists directions the other day, or looking the right way first time...

Happy Birthday, America!
My third week of work has started on a Tuesday, due to the long weekend for Independence Day. Wanting to make the most of our extra day off, my roommate and I attempted to plan our weekend meticulously... On the Saturday, (going to see the new Twilight...

'Two nations divided by a common language'
So I have in Chicago for two weeks now. It has flown by, but I feel like I've been here for ages! It's weird, because although I'm technically a 'tourist' because I'm visiting another country to my own, I'm also living and...

Thursdays are the best day of the week...
So it seems that the volatile Chicagoan weather has calmed down for the time being, but who knows how long that will last! We had the worst thunderstorm in 2 years here a couple nights ago, complete with tornado warnings and being moved from the canteen...

Baptism of fire (or rain, as it happens)
So, here's my first step into the blogosphere... As I write this blog, the view out of my window is of high rise buildings and a metro track that goes straight through the heart of Chicago. Very different to the view of sheep that I have at home....
