Bio

My name is Christopher Gordon and I graduated in the summer of 2009 from Heriot Watt University with a Master of Arts in Management with Business Law with Honours of the First Class.

My fourth year dissertation was based on the future legal and international business challenges of the Multinational Enterprise where I was awarded the BP Prize for Excellence for the best honours dissertation from the Heriot Watt University School of Management and Languages. I feel that I was awarded this prize as I focused my studies around my internship experience and maintained contact for research.

I completed the Undergraduate Internship Programme in 2008 in Houston, Texas with Wood Group. I was able to undertake projects in Business Development, Accounting and Finance, International HRM and Corporate Communications. This was a life changing experience and gave me confidence I never had previously. It opened a new career path for me where I will strive to reach a senior position in the energy industry leading large teams of people to deliver strong results.

I have since joined Wood Group in their North Sea division as a Project Controls Graduate where I am currently gaining significant project and technical experience I feel essential to go far in this industry. My first and current placement is in the estimating for project scopes and this has by far been one of the biggest learning curves I have experienced. Having had no prior oil and gas experience since my internship, I am now participating in the estimating process for large scopes, co-ordinating our change control process and understanding about the importance of risk awareness.

Furthermore, I have recently completed all offshore survival training where I will be due to be mobilised offshore soon to get first hand experience of the offshore environment.

As part of the graduate programme, the opportunity to gain professional qualifications through the Association for Project Management (APM) is available. I have recently completed my Introductory Certificate in Project Management, becoming an Associate Member of the Association and I have also joined the APM Aberdeen Chapter Committee to participate in knowledge sharing and enhance my industry networks.
