A graduate of the University of Edinburgh (B.Eng) and the University of Liverpool (M.Eng), Martyn is a chartered engineer with a background in the oil & gas and renewable energy sectors. His technical, managerial and leadership experience has chiefly been gained with Wood Group, Scotland’s pre-eminent international energy services company, where he had the privilege of leading strong engineering teams as well as contributing to the PILOT industry/government task force. In 2005 he moved to Lewis in the Outer Hebrides for two years to lead the local authority’s energy and coastal zone team. In this role Martyn and his team developed relationships with partners from across Europe and secured over £7m in funding from external sources. Teamwork, innovation, effort and enterprise are amongst Martyn’s core values. He was voted Young Consulting Engineer of the Year by the Association of Consulting Engineers in 2001 and he won a Churchill Travel Fellowship in 2004. Away from work Martyn enjoys following his wife Isobel up Munros, reading (particularly the poetry and prose of Robert Burns) and spending time with family and friends.
